Firefighters battle flames at Knoxville home

PITTSBURGH — Residents were forced out into the cold early Monday morning after a fire broke out in their home.

The fire started at a home on Alice Street in the Knoxville section of Pittsburgh around 1:30 a.m.

Residents tried to put the fire out by themselves.  One of them even grabbed a fire extinguisher in an effort to put out the flames.

All seven residents, including a woman who is pregnant, ran out of the house.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours trying to put out the flames.

Residents who live inside the home are grateful no one was hurt.

“Thank God no one was injured.  Thank God it didn’t spread quickly. Thank God the fire department came,”  one of the residents told Channel 11.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
