SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A flatbed truck crashed into a utility pole early Thursday morning along Washington Pike, knocking out power to homes and businesses in South Fayette Township and Bridgeville.
Officials said the crash was reported about 1 a.m. and knocked out a transformer, which leaked oil. The driver apparently hit the gas instead of the brakes.
As of 12 p.m., Washington Pike remained closed between Bursca and Daniell drives while repairs are made.
Initially, more than 400 customers were without power. Traffic lights also went out, slowing down the morning commute.
West Penn Power crews were called to the scene. Power was restored to most customers by noon.
No injuries were reported.
