Headed downtown Sunday? Be wary of road closures for the Great Race

PITTSBURGH — If you plan to head into the city this weekend to enjoy the beautiful weather, be warned. There will be several road closures for the 40th running of the Richard S. Caliguiri Great Race.

More than 16,000 runners are expected to make their way from Frick Park and Oakland into downtown Pittsburgh for the 10K and 5K events.

The following road closures begin at 6:30 a.m.:

  • Fifth Avenue and Bigelow Blvd. to Fifth Avenue and the ramp to Blvd. of the Allies
  • Fifth Avenue & the newly constructed Oakland ramp to Blvd. of the Allies to Commonwealth Blvd. and Liberty Ave.

The following road closures begin at 8:30 a.m.:

  • Start line at Beechwood Blvd. to Forbes and Morewood Avenues
  • Forbes and Morewood Avenues to Fifth Avenue and Bigelow Blvd.
