High-rise construction in Oakland could disrupt traffic for 2 years

“I think it’s a great thing to have more resources and businesses and development in Oakland. I think it’ll help with jobs and making Pittsburgh a good place to come to work,” Elizabeth Conley, of Squirrel Hill, said.

Walnut Capital is behind the more than $50 million, 280,000-square-foot project at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Halket Street, steps away from Carlow University.

Construction will reduce Fifth Avenue from three lanes to two lanes between Chesterfield Road and Robinson Street.

The Port Authority of Allegheny County’s lane will also briefly shift over.

Drivers won’t be able to turn left onto Halket Street from Fifth Avenue.

The project is expected to be completed in July 2022.
