Home gutted by flames in West Deer Township

WEST DEER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Flames gutted a home in West Deer Township Friday morning.

Two men were sleeping when they woke up to the fire about 5 a.m. on Quigley Road, officials said.

The fire quickly spread through the home, sending flames shooting from windows and the roof.

“The house was totally engulfed. I could see orange, yellow flames. You could barely see the house, and there was a lot of smoke,” Sarah Bossart, a neighbor, said.

According to the fire chief, only one of the men lives at the home, and his children were not there when the fire broke out. The other man was a friend.

Both men got out safely, but two dogs, a cat and kittens did not, officials said.

A fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
