Large Monroeville development bringing mixed reactions from businesses, residents

A large development proposal could bring changes to Monroeville – with mixed reactions from local residents.

Key Development is planning to put a 10,000 square foot building at “Tyke’s Corner” at the intersection of Stroshein Road and William Penn Highway.

The building would be built where Tyke’s Auto Repair Shop has stood for decades, and the shop owners told Channel 11 they are already planning to relocate nearby.

Some residents said it was a good idea, some said it depends on the types of businesses brought in, while others had issues with the amount of additional traffic it may bring to that busy intersection.

There is a pending legal dispute with a neighboring property owner regarding property lines that could prevent the project from moving forward, but Steve Panko, the developer, said construction should begin in the next few months.

Key Development has received approval for the project from the Monroeville council and is in the process of obtaining state and local construction permits.

The building is projected to be completed in time for Christmas 2018.
