Man accused of raping neighbor, arrested two years later

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. — Channel 11 was the only station there as Ellwood City police took Devin Myers to jail on charges assuming him of brutally beating and raping his 66-year-old neighbor.

Police say they had evidence that night: They found a bloody coat and the suspect had wounds on his hands, but he denied everything.

DNA evidence finally came back and police got their warrant.

His arrest was two and a half years in the making. The rape and beating happened in April 2015.

Police say DNA sealed the deal with results that just came back from the lab, which linked Myers to the horrific crime.

Officers told Channel 11 that on the night of the crime, they found a bloody jacket hanging in this tree outside of the suspect's apartment window.

The suspect and victim lived in the same Fifth Street apartment complex.

The victim has since moved and she never saw her attacker, but told officers a month before the incident that Myers kept telling her that he was going to get her.

Officer say they're glad they could get him off the street.

Mayers has been a freeman for over two years, but police say they have had other run-ins with him since then, from weapons charges to drugs.
