Man flees deputies, but they catch up with him at hospital

A man is accused of taking off and running from sheriff's deputies not once but twice – and they didn't catch him until he showed up to a hospital Thursday.

Now he is finally in custody in the Westmoreland County Prison.

Timothy Chavis was wanted on felony warrants for several drug charges. Deputies first spotted him in the Jeannette area earlier this week.

The sheriff's office says when deputies told Chavis he was under arrest, he backed away and took off, running through yards and jumping over fences, and they lost sight of him.

Deputies continued to search for him, and spotted him again a short time later. They say he again and got away for a second time.

The next day, deputies were led to a home in McKeesport where Chavis allegedly had been staying. He wasn't there at the time but they learned he may be at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh getting treatment for an injury.

Deputies went to AGH, and with the help of security and Pittsburgh police, they took Chavis into custody.

In addition to the drug charges Chavis was already facing, he's now also being charged with escape and resisting arrest.
