Man in custody after string of thefts in South Park

SOUTH PARK, Pa. — A man has been accused of breaking into homes and stealing, guns, purses and other items.

James Brannan, 19, is accused of burglarizing several homes Monday evening and stealing from cars on Locust Street in South Park.

Brock Orr told Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski that he and three other relatives were asleep when, according to police, Brannan broke into the home.

“No, we didn’t wake up at all,” Orr said. “He came in through the garage door (and) went into the living room. (He) took my cousin’s purse, went back down to the garage and took a shotgun we had down there. And at some point he left crackers on our front porch from somebody else's house."

Within hours of the thefts, police said they got a call from a woman who had found a gun and a purse in a bedroom where Brannan, a friend of her son’s, had been staying. She suspected they were stolen.

When police searched the bedroom, they said they found a stolen gun, credit cards and other items.

When he was taken into custody, Brannan first said he couldn’t remember anything because he’d been drinking. Police said he admitted to the thefts later.

Orr told Kaminski that from now on, he’s going to lock his garage door.

Another victim said she’s happy someone is in custody, and she wants her purse, wallet and keys back.
