Man sought in business burglary after stabbing owner in May

SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man who police said stabbed a Shaler Township business owner in May is being sought in connection to a burglary Thursday at the business, authorities said.

The burglary happened at Hoffman’s Tree Service on Seavey Road. Investigators said David Interthal, 34, was caught on surveillance video ransacking the business and pouring gasoline.

“You see him bust a window out,” Kyle Hoffman, the owner of Hoffman’s Tree Service, said. “You open the door, it smells of fumes and gasoline.”

Police said Interthal might be armed with a knife and anyone who comes in contact with him is urged to use caution.

“Just keep a lookout. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt at the end of the day,” Hoffman said.

In May, Hoffman was stabbed in the leg and chest by Interthal, who also threatened a child at a home in Shaler, police said. Interthal was released from jail on bond.

“He is unstable. This is the reason why the bail should not be lowered and allowed out of jail,” Hoffman said.

Interthal is charged in Thursday’s incident with burglary, criminal trespass, causing or risking catastrophe and criminal mischief.

Anyone with information on Interthal’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Shaler Township Police Department by calling 911.
