Man suspected in 2003 homicide in Pittsburgh arrested in Jamaica

PITTSBURGH — A man wanted for more than a decade on murder charges out of Hazelwood is back in Pittsburgh, but getting him here, was not easy.

The process involved officials in four different countries.

Keith Thompson fled Pittsburgh for the Caribbean to avoid a homicide charge more than 14 years ago.

Thompson was charged with killing Michael Brown in June 2003. His body was found near Calvary Cemetery in Hazelwood.

By the time charges were filed, police say Thompson escaped to his home in the Bahamas, until last month.

Kraus said it's a relief to have Thompson back, but it didn't come easy.

"Once the alert came out, we were able to start putting everything in motion," Kraus said. "But it was challenging because we were so constrained by time and he was moving country to country."​
