Man tries to stop alleged purse snatcher by jumping on hood of car outside Walmart

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police are looking for an alleged purse snatcher who they say robbed a woman as she walked out of the Walmart in Richland Township earlier this month.

The woman was leaving the store March 18 when a man grabbed her purse and ran to his vehicle, police said.

A family member of the woman tried to stop the thief by jumping on the hood of his car, police said. The robber hit the brakes, throwing the man off the car, and drove away, according to police.

“The actor accelerated quickly and then hit the brakes, which threw the male off the hood of the car,” said Det. Scott Rick. “He landed in the parking lot. Then the suspect took off almost hitting the wife or sister-in-law."

Nobody was seriously hurt, but police said the victim and her family are shaken up.

"With his disregard of grabbing this woman's purse and almost striking two people, his reckless manner, he didn't care about anything but getting her purse and getting out of the area," Rick said.

The car is described as a newer, blue Toyota sedan.

Northern Regional police released a surveillance photo of the suspected robber.
