Mon Wharf to partially reopen Tuesday as river waters recede

UPDATE: 3:42 p.m. The Mon Wharf will partially reopen Tuesday, according to a release by the Port Authority. Approximately 250 spaces will be made available. Parking spaces along the lower planter walls will remain closed.

The Mon Wharf in Pittsburgh will be closed for parking Monday as river levels continue to recede following heavy rain and storms Friday night into Saturday that caused flooding.

The Public Parking Authority of Pittsburgh confirmed the closure of the wharf, which floods at around 18 feet.

High pressure will produce fair weather through mid-week, although humidity began to increase Sunday evening. The next chance for showers will be on Thursday.

Torrential rains over the weekend led to swiftwater rescues on Saturday as rivers in western Pennsylvania swelled quickly.

In Monongahela, Washington County, several volunteer fire departments teamed up to save four people stuck on a boat dock on the Monongahela River near the Noble. J. Dick Aquatorium.

The California Boat Club in Washington County crashed and sank in the Monongahela River on Saturday. The club floated down the river and sank near Charleroi Park after it came loose from its moorings.

Six people on a raft on the Youghiogheny River in Dawson, Fayette County, also needed to be rescued.

With high water expected through the week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is warning boaters of fast-moving currents and debris.
