Negotiations between nurses, health network coming down to wire

Negotiations on Monday could be the last chance to prevent an eventual walkout by nurses at Allegheny General Hospital.

That is the last day the two sides the nurses’ union and Allegheny Health Network are scheduled to meet for negotiations.

TRENDING NOW:

A source tells Channel 11 if AHN doesn't present the nurses with an acceptable contract, they will likely issue a strike notice.

That wouldn't be formally voted on until Tuesday.

By state law, nurses have to give a 10-day notice before going on strike, meaning the earliest they could strike would be Nov. 3.

According to a flyer obtained by Channel 11, nurses are calling for a plan to fix staffing, a raise and affordable benefits.

Late Friday afternoon, Channel 11 received a statement from AHN:

"We are actively bargaining in good faith with the union to reach a contract that is fair and highly competitive for our nurses. We have made great progress in our negotiations to date and look forward to continuing constructive dialogue with the union until an agreement is reached."

Channel 11 also reached out to SEIU Healthcare, the union representing the nurses, but repeated calls and emails were not returned.
