The Fayette County neighborhood where a tornado touched down last month is not eligible for federal disaster money, a state representative said Thursday.
Rep. Matthew Dowling, R-Fayette, said the damage done didn’t rise to the level of qualifying for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. However, he said Gov. Tom Wolf requested the Small Business Administration, which has different standards, make a disaster declaration.

“Along with county officials, the commonwealth conducted a detailed damage assessment that appears to show that over 38 of the homes and businesses involved have uninsured losses that meet or exceed the 40 percent of the pre-disaster fair market value,” Dowling said in a statement.
He thanked Wolf for the effort and invited him to tour the damaged area.
