NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. — Paige Cohen should have been getting ready to go to her junior prom on Friday, but instead she was just looking at all the pictures of her friends.

“I sat home while they're getting glammed up to go,” Cohen said.
Cohen said East Allegheny High School wouldn’t let her bring her boyfriend, Ryan, to the prom because he already graduated last year. He enlisted in the Army and started boot camp in January, so she wasn’t able to get the paperwork the school was requesting to let him take her to the prom.
Cohen’s mom said they’ve been trying for two weeks to find a way to work with the school but didn't have any luck.
“We didn't have what teachers were requiring, so they said not to bother turning it in,” she said. “We don’t know when he’ll be back or if he’ll be able to come back for any dances as a senior. It would have been nice if the school could have worked with us to make this happen for these two people, because that’s what this is about. It’s supposed to be about the kids.”
The family said Ryan just graduated last year, so he’s not a stranger to the school. He was permitted by the school to attend a dance with Cohen in December and there were no issues – or necessary paperwork.
Channel 11 called and emailed the superintendent about the situation but did not hear back as of Friday evening.
