Two people are in jail after police said they used heroin under their baby’s car seat while the child was in the seat.

Nicholas Murphy and Francise Reed were arrested Tuesday in Indiana County.

Investigators set up surveillance near Fox’s Pizza in Blairsville because they heard there was drug activity in and around that area. Police said they spotted Reed, who admitted to trading a tablet for a bundle of heroin and taking it back to a car parked at Sheetz.

When police pulled the car over on Route 119 near Homer City, they found the baby unbuckled in the car sat, which was not latched in. Reed allegedly admitted to police that her veins were “shot,” so she put her arm under the car seat in the back seat so her boyfriend, Murphy, could inject the heroin.

Police said they also found drug paraphernalia inside a baby wipes container inside the baby’s diaper bag.

When Reed was arrested, police said they found nine empty stamp bags of heroin and a fresh track mark on Murphy.

Murphy and Reed remain in jail on $10,000 cash bail.
