Parkway North construction, new traffic patterns now underway

The next phase of construction will begin Monday on the Parkway North, and motorists will likely experience some frustration.

Lane and shoulder restrictions in both directions between the Perrysville Avenue and Camp Horne Road exits will accommodate paving, bridge rehabilitation and sign upgrades as part of the $87 million project. Motorists will likely be looking for ways around it.

“It backs up on my street really, really bad,” said Michelle Grubbs of Ross Township. “You can't get out even if you don't want to get on that particular exit. It's just really difficult."

Outbound traffic will be down to one lane weekdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Inbound will be down to one lane weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and again from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.

"My kids need to get Downtown a lot and I have a daughter at Pitt that I go see weekly. So I'll just have to deal with it,” said Helen Liguori of Wexford.

Drivers like Grubbs are calling on PennDOT to give more warning to residents so they can properly prepare.

"It's hard, especially if you don't know ahead of time because you can't make any plans. This is the first time I'm hearing this,” she said. “It's going to be really difficult."

PennDOT is giving no timetable on when this section of work will be complete.
