Penn Hills couple pleads guilty to starving disabled man to death

In November 2015, Penn Hills police responded to a 911 call from Pamela McNeal and Adam Haynes’ home on Saint Rose Place.

When they went inside, they found 54-year-old David Fuhrman dead in bed.

In court Tuesday, McNeal and Haynes pleaded guilty to third-degree murder.

According to the criminal complaint, Fuhrman was "extremely underweight” at 76 pounds, almost half his normal weight. He had "significant pronouncement of bone structures and multiple deep sores and wounds on his back and elbow."

Fuhrman also had on "three adult diapers, with a large sore in the area which appeared to be infected."

Police say McNeal admitted she and her husband had been Fuhrman's caretakers for the past 15 years, and that Furhman had mental issues and functioned as a 5-year-old.

The couple also said they didn't seek medical treatment after they thought Fuhrman had a stroke, couldn't eat and continued to lose weight.

In court Tuesday, the prosecutor said the couple received payment through Fuhrman's social security checks.

The coupe said nothing during the proceedings. The judge allowed McNeal’s son to hug her before she was escorted from the courtroom. He also ordered a pre-sentence report – their sentencing is scheduled for April 4.
