Penn Hills school board member facing drug possession charges resigns

PENN HILLS, Pa. — Drug allegations have surfaced against a Penn Hills school board member whose resignation was accepted Monday night at a school board meeting.

Channel 11 News learned that Donald Kuhn Jr. was taken into custody at the Dormont borough building on March 23, the same day he failed to appear before a grand jury to testify about the school board’s alleged mismanagement of $424,000 in taxpayer money.

Sheriff’s deputies said they found heroin, cocaine and a hydrocodone pill in Kuhn’s pockets.

According to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE, Kuhn allegedly said four days later at a school board meeting that he had not been arrested.

Kuhn was not criminally charged until April 12.

Kuhn's mother, Penn Hills Mayor Sara Kuhn, announced her son's resignation Friday, citing health reasons, TribLIVE reported.

Penn Hills School District Superintendent Nancy Hines wouldn’t comment Monday night on Kuhn’s resignation, but acknowledged the district’s recent struggles.

“Admittedly, this has been a tough 30 days for many reasons,” Hines said.

Donald Kuhn is scheduled to go before a judge May 31 on drug possession charges.
