PennDOT is now warning drivers to get their documents ready to apply for the Real ID.
The federal standard was created in 2005 to prevent terrorism.
PennDOT hopes to process those documents, which include a passport or birth certificate, Social Security card and two proofs of address in September.
PennDOT should already have digital copies from people who got their licenses or IDs after 2003.
The Real IDs will be issued in 2019.
