Pittsburgh principal struck by parent, who will be charged, district says

A Pittsburgh Public Schools principal was struck by a parent on Friday morning and the mother will be charged, the district has confirmed.

The principal at Weil Elementary School in the Hill District was escorting a parent out of the building when the parent swung her arm back, striking the principal in the face.

Channel 11 spoke with parents outside the school Friday afternoon.

“That’s terrible. It’s not right,” said Angel Dixon.

According to a spokesperson for the district, the parent has now been barred from the school grounds.  She will also be charged with aggravated assault.

It’s unclear why the parent was upset, but sources tell Target 11 that the parent confronted a teacher at the school on Thursday.

The district spokesperson says the principal remained at the school.  It’s unclear what injuries she suffered.

Parents Channel 11 spoke with can’t believe it.

“It just should have never happened. That’s the only thing I can say,” said another parent. “She was a nice person I don’t know why they did that to her.”

Officials say they'll charge the parent on Monday with aggravated assault.
