After investigating, they say the child got a hold of a stolen gun brought into the home by the teenager. Police say the 7-year-old found the loaded gun tucked inside the teen's backpack, which was in the basement.
Police say the boy shot himself in the foot and his injuries are not life-threatening. They told Channel 11 there were three adults in the home when the child was shot, including the boy's grandmother.
Police say the adults said they were sleeping and did not see and did not know there were two stolen guns in the teen’s backpack.
