Police charge mother with DUI while her young daughter was in car

Police arrested a woman after a fast-food worker noticed something wasn’t right as she pulled into the drive-thru.

Cranberry Township police tell Channel 11 that Renee Goughnour was at the Wendy’s on Tuesday afternoon with her daughter but never ordered anything.

“They noticed that she was apparently under the influence of something,” said Sgt. Chuck Mascellino.

TRENDING NOW:

Goughnour was driving her car with her five-year-old daughter in the backseat, but police say she could barely keep her eyes open and her speech was slurred.

According to the criminal complaint, Goughnour did poorly on a field sobriety test and was taken for a drug evaluation. Officers are waiting for those results to come back, but Channel 11 did a little digging and found out Goughnour driving record shows she’s been arrested for two prior DUIs.

Police are just glad Wendy’s employees got involved.

“We need the community’s help for anything like this because we can’t be everywhere,” Mascellino said. “So when people do get involved and report things … luckily, nobody was hurt in this incident and everything was resolved safely. The child was safe, and that’s what the most important thing is.”

Goughnour was charged with DUI and endangering the welfare of a child. Her daughter is in the care of family members.
