Police chase from Homestead ends with officer-involved shooting in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are investigating a chase and officer-involved shooting that began in Homestead before heading into the city on Saturday night.

The incident began around 11 p.m. in Homestead, when Homestead police attempted to pull a vehicle over for erratic driving. A pursuit ensued into the city and ended in a crash in the 3300 block of East Carson Street on the South Side involving three vehicles, including the suspect’s car, the Homestead police officer’s cruiser and another vehicle.

The crash was followed by the Homestead officer shooting the suspect, according to police.

The man was taken to a local hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

Pittsburgh police are investigating. Violent Crime Unit detectives will interview the Homestead officer and all others involved, police said.

East Carson Street was closed from Becks Run Road to Sarah Street while the Crime Scene Unit processed the scene.
