Police investigating after packages stolen of porches in South Side

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are investigating after residents of the South Side said people stole packages right off porches Sunday.

A video shows two possible thieves sitting down on patio furniture rummaging through a box on 21st and Sarah streets just after 5 p.m. Sunday on the South Side.

The man on the right in the video takes what was inside the box and places it in a bag and the two walk away, neither noticing the home security camera rolling above them.

Michele Margitti's neighbor recorded the video and posted it on Facebook, hoping someone would recognize these two potential package thieves.

“I don’t think a lot of people realize how many put up cameras on the inside of the houses. So yes, we are always watching,” Margitti said.

She's hoping the video is a reminder to people to be on the lookout with holidays right around the corner.

“I think people here need to be vigilant, and if you can’t have your package, send it somewhere else that is open during the day,” Margitti said.
