Police investigating 'murder-suicide' at retirement community

McCANDLESS, Pa. — Residents and staff of an Allison Park retirement community are trying to make sense of what McCandless police are calling a “murder-suicide.”

A husband and wife died on the third floor of the Cumberland Woods Village independent-living retirement community Monday morning, police said.

Police said Julius Ceccarelli, 83, shot his wife – Angela Ceccarelli, 80 – while she was sleeping and called 911 before shooting himself.

According to police, they did not know if there was an active shooter when they arrived at the scene at 6:30 a.m. Police said the closest schools were put on alert until they got to the couple’s apartment.

Angela Ceccarelli was still lying in bed, while Julius Ceccarelli was in the bathroom, police said.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, there were no signs of a struggle.

Investigators said the couple had lived at the retirement community for about two years, and there were no signs of trouble in the marriage.
