NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A police officer was rescued from rising waters in Washington County.
Emergency dispatchers tell Channel 11 that the Monongahela police officer was stranded in flood waters around 6:30 a.m. Thursday along Courtney Hill Road in North Union Township.

The officer told Channel 11 he drove his cruiser to the edge of the rising floodwater, then all of the sudden his SUV got sucked into the water, forcing him to climb onto his roof. His SUV was submerged in the water.

Firefighters trained in swift water rescue rescued the officer, who was trapped on his roof for about 35 minutes until the rescue team got him on a boat to safety.
The officer told Channel 11 he was cold and wet, but was not injured.
