Police search for man accused in Butler homicide

A man was shot and killed Thursday morning in Butler, Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz reported.

Police received a report of shots fired about 10 a.m. in an apartment on Wick Street. When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man dead, police said.

Marcinkiewicz learned that the man was shot in the head and chest, and there were at least a dozen people, including teenagers, in the apartment when the shots rang out.

Police have an arrest warrant for David Franklin, 19, of Pittsburgh. They believe he is armed and dangerous because they did not find a gun at the shooting scene.

According to the arrest warrant, Franklin went to the apartment on Wick Street because he believed someone inside had stolen $900 from him. Franklin and the victim, Rashaan Adams, 20, spent the night at the home.

People who live in the apartment complex along Wick Street told Marcinkiewicz that they weren’t surprised by the violence.

“It's like Sheetz over there, people going in and out all the time,” neighbor Dustin Miller said.

Carrisa Cribbs said she doesn’t let her children play outside because of safety concerns.

Hours before the shooting, officers were called after two people jumped out of a stolen Jeep, which crashed into a house. Police are investigating whether the two incidents are related.

“We heard a big loud crashing noise, husband came running out and two men ran from the scene of the crime,” said Shannon Thomas, the homeowner.

Police said anyone who sees Franklin should not approach him, but call 911.
