Police seek parents after alleged serious physical abuse of infant

The parents of a baby boy have a warrant out for their arrest, both facing felony charges.

The baby was allegedly abused in May, but charges were just filed Friday.

Police say the baby suffered from several burns and broken ribs when he was four months old.

“I'm surprised more than anything and I'm appalled at hearing something like that,” said neighbor Donald Morrison.

According to the criminal complaint, the baby has been physically abused several times. Doctors noticed other injuries on him when he was taken to the hospital.

"Doctors found bruising on his thigh, knee, forehead and mouth," according to the complaint. He was "also found to have multiple broken ribs."

The injuries were so severe the baby had to be taken to the trauma burn ICU unit at UPMC Mercy Hospital.

Doctors say the baby "suffered deep tissue second-degree burns to his face and first-degree burns to his chest."

"Even to think something like that could happen is unbelievable," Morrison said.

According to the criminal complaint, the father claimed the burns came from cheap deodorant.
