Pregnant woman shot in Homestead gives birth to healthy baby

HOMESTEAD, Pa. — A pregnant woman who was shot Wednesday afternoon in Homestead gave birth to a healthy baby on Thursday morning.

Police are searching for the gunmen who shot the woman and a man, The man is recovering from his injuries as well.

The shooting was reported just before 4:30 p.m. in the 200 block of East 17th Street. Police said the 23-year-old man and the woman were getting gas when at least 25 shots were fired. An auto body shop across the street from the gas station was also hit with a bullet.

Police said they believe two gunmen ran down an alley and escaped in a white Hyundai. The victims left the scene in their car and were taken to a hospital.

A witness said the man didn't realize he was hurt at first, and was focusing his attention on the pregnant woman.

"He said, 'They shot my bab. They shot my baby,'" said Elaine Gasch, who has lived in the neighborhood for years.

A woman who lives nearby said she and others are worried about retaliation.

"This is getting real bad around here, and it's time someone steps in and does something," the woman said.

The gas station's surveillance cameras didn't catch the shooting on video. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
