PWSA places shut off notice on City-County Building, city says it's a mistake

The Pennsylvania Water and Sewer Authority posted a delinquent bill notice today on the City-County Building and threatened to shut off the water.

The city says the situation is a big mistake.

For years, the county had been paying the water bill at the City-County Building but that ended last year.

The city took over the payments, but apparently forgot to tell PWSA.

“Back in October, the name on the account should have been transferred over to the city of Pittsburgh but, for some reason, it's still showing that it's Allegheny County. So again, we have to deal with PWSA in getting that transferred over to the city of Pittsburgh,” said Guy Costa, chief operations officer for the city.

Under an agreement with PWSA, the city doesn't pay for water.

It's unclear if the city will have to pay these bills.

Costa said he plans to sit down with PWSA and figure it out.

The shut-off notices have been removed.
