Red Cross responding to multiple disasters across Western Pa.

PITTSBURGH — The Red Cross is moving to assist the people most impacted by major Western Pennsylvania.

Flooding has been a problem as the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon crossed the area dumping several inches of rain. So far four different reception centers have been opened.

  • Allegheny County - Elizabeth Township Community Center (429 Duncan Station Road, McKeesport)
  • Indiana County – Clymer American Legion (485 Franklin Street, Clymer) **This has since been closed.**
  • Westmoreland County – Collinsburg Volunteer Fire Company (514 Hickory Drive, West Newton) **This has been converted into an overnight shelter.**
  • Westmoreland County – Derry Area High School (988 North Chestnut Street Extension, Derry) **This has since been closed.**

In addition, after a gas line explosion destroyed several buildings in Beaver County, the Red Cross established a reception center at the Center Township #1 Fire Department. That center was closed late Monday afternoon.

To complicate matters, the Red Cross is monitoring Hurricane Florence, which is set to make landfall in the Carolinas later this week and potentially move inland by the weekend.
