Resident concerned stream will freeze over Observatory Hill road

Car after car has been coming down Maridale Street in Observatory Hill, passing right through a steady stream of water in the side of the street coming from the hillside.

It's something Stacey Branch has noticed since October, so she started making calls.

“I notified the city back in October and 311. I also did a 311 report online,” she said.

But the water still trickles down.

“Nothing's happening!” Branch said.

Her fear is that the water will turn to ice with temperatures below freezing expected this weekend.

“The water is pouring down from the hillside, and with the weather getting cold, it's turning into ice and someone's gonna get hurt and wreck,” she said.

Channel 11 went to the site two days in a row to check on the situation and the water is still flowing.

Since Branch wasn’t getting anywhere, Channel 11 reached out to Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority and got this response:

“PWSA took samples of the water on Maridale Street to determine if it is caused by a leak in our system or runoff from another source. If it's determined to be water from our system, we will find the leak and make repairs.”

Branch says repairs can’t come soon enough.

“You can see the hillside is also beginning to cave in,” she said.

Channel 11 will be checking in to make sure there's a resolution.
