Residents frustrated about potholes, trash on 40th Street Bridge

Neighbors are calling out problems on a critical link between Route 28 and places like the Children's Hospital.

They say the 40th Street Bridge is in bad shape from trash and potholes -- especially on the Lawrenceville side of the bridge.

“Terrible. They are terrible everywhere. It’s just one of those winters where we need to get them fixed and fixed fast,” said Bob Cupka, who drives on the bridge.

Channel 11 reached out to the city to check in on pothole complaints. Officials with 311 said from Jan. 1 to 3:04 p.m. Wednesday, a total of 6,704 calls have come into 311 about potholes.

Potholes aren't the only issue. Neighbors are complaining about trash close to the 40th Street Bridge. We're told the city of Pittsburgh and Millvale are supposed to share the cleaning.

One resident took it upon herself, starting a GoFundMe account to raise money to clean up the trash. So far, she's raised several hundred dollars.

Drivers said they look forward to cleaner and warmer days ahead.
