Residents frustrated with snow-covered streets days after storm

Dozens of Pittsburgh Public Works trucks are still out treating the streets days after a heavy snowfall that many residents are saying wasn’t handled well.

Channel 11 viewers called and emailed us, sending dozens and dozens of tips on social media about the lack of salting and plowing in their neighborhoods, like Knoxville and Mount Washington.

“It’s not like this all the time but most of the time it is," said one North Side resident.

Channel 11 drove around Brookline on Monday afternoon and found at least two streets, Gaily Drive and Lamarido Street, almost completely snow-covered.

Pittsburgh's director of public works tells Channel 11 that crews have been out nonstop since Friday night. The bitter cold the last two days has not helped to activate the salt and calcium chloride and many streets that have been treated look like they haven't.

"It seems like we're in between two major streets, Arch and Sherman, and we don't get any services," said resident Tony Craig.

We saw some people just digging out the patch of road near their cars because they couldn't wait anymore.

"I'm just tired of being home bound," said that North Side resident. "I'm going to the store."

Residents will have to deal with a new round of snow falling Monday night, which could add up to three inches in some areas.
