Residents wary after South Side banks robbed 3 times in 10 days

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are searching for a man who who could be responsible for three bank robberies in the South Side in just 10 days.

All of them on Carson Street, all of them in broad daylight. And that has some residents scared.

"It's like terrifying," said Elise Powell. "I don't know who would rob a bank in the middle of the day. It just seems scary, like there are so many people here."

The first robbery occurred on Aug. 21 at the Dollar Bank on 17th and Carson streets.

Police released photos of the robber wearing a wig and dark sunglasses.

The second robbery happened on Aug. 24 at the First Commonwealth Bank on 25th and Carson streets.

The suspect wore a mask and pulled out a handgun before demanding cash.

"Normally, I come down here in the middle of the day," said Amie Powell. "I'm not afraid to walk down the street by myself, but knowing that, it's kind of scary."

And then, on Wednesday, First Commonwealth Bank was hit again.

The FBI says the suspect had a similar look and approach to the suspect in the other robberies. Federal agents interviewed the tellers and pulled all the surveillance video but said they need the public's help to identify him.

The robber is described as approximately 6 feet fall and slim, police said.
