Sandusky argues for new judge, trial

BELLEFONTE, Pa — Former Penn State assistant football coach and convicted child predator Jerry Sandusky argued Friday for a new trial in front of a new judge.

The new judge presiding over the case said this is not an appeal but a post-conviction relief act. Sandusky’s new defense attorney, Al Lindsay, is trying to argue ineffective counsel.

Sandusky’s previous attorney, Joe Amendola, was called first for the defense. He was questioned about his tactics when preparing and trying Sandusky’s case in June 2012, in particular, the Bob Costas interview.

"He wasn't ready for trial. I think after today you could see, he wasn't ready for trial based on the time constraints he was under. He wasn't effective assistance of counsel,” Lindsay said.

A Clinton County psychologist who treated one of the victims was questioned about that victim's memory and whether his story changed before the grand jury.

The defense concluded today by calling two of the lead Pennsylvania State Police investigators to ask about the way police questioned the alleged victims.

"In this type of case, that type of questioning is, shall we say, raises a lot of credibility issues," Lindsay said.

To continue the hearing, the judge has set two more dates: May 11 and May 26.
