School board OKs administrator raises while union waits for contract

The Keystone Oaks School board approved pay raises for 14 administrators.

This all happened while the Keystone Oaks Education Association (a teachers union) sits with a temporary contract set to expire on Friday.

The union avoided a strike back in March, and now members are left shaking their heads over how these higher-ups are being rewarded.

TRENDING NOW:

"We're not happy that all these admins are getting raises and we're not," said Kevin Gallagher, president of the Keystone Oaks Education Association.

It was standing room only at Tuesday night's school board meeting.

Only Channel 11 was there as teachers and parents sporting KOEA shirts voiced their concerns. Those concerns are over administrators getting pay raises while the Keystone Oaks Education Association is just days away from their temporary contract expiring.

"Not that the administrators don't deserve the money, it's just that if there is money that it should be distributed fairly," Gallagher said.

"You have to look at the entirely of the package," said Matt Cesario, president of the board of directors for the Keystone Oaks School District. "We're very comfortable with these contracts as we said before."

Cesario admits fairness will be a priority especially as time ticks away; he tells Channel 11 he's confident.

"The time line obviously does bring some pressure, but we've been through it recently before," Cesario said.

Gallagher said, "All we're asking for is a fair deal."

The board also approved a new budget.

Gallagher tells Channel 11 the union will try to work out a new contract as the school year approaches.
