School district on high alert after HS student lured by man in car

HEMPFIELD, Pa. — Hempfield Area High School officials are warning students and parents after a man tried to lure a high schooler into a car.

The school district sent out a letter on Friday. The message noted that there is a visible police presence in the area and that they will continue the search for the man.

The alleged incident happened Friday morning across the street from Rodney’s Restaurant.

According to school officials, a man drove up to the student as the teen was walking to his bus stop and asked him if he needed a ride. The student told the man "no" and immediately walked away to call for help. The car drove away and the student was not hurt.

There is a vague description of the suspect. Police said he is a white man between 30 and 50 years old. He was wearing a blue and red tassel hat. The student told police he was driving a silver or gray Chrysler 300.

The school district is encouraging parents of children all ages to sit down with them and talk about stranger danger.

School officials said they will work with the police to keep students safe. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
