Series of break-ins cause more losses in damage than thefts

State police are on the hunt Monday night for a duo accused of breaking into area businesses right in the heart of Ohiopyle.

"Does seem odd, since most of the businesses are closed, that someone would come target this area,” said Falls Market owner Pamela Kruse.

Troopers tell Channel 11 the pair was initially caught on surveillance video around 1:40 a.m. at the Ohiopyle Bakery and Sandwich Shop, then went over to the House Cafe and got away with alcohol.

Police said they spent about an hour in Firefly Chocolates. The owner said they got away with an iPad and destroyed her chocolate inventory.

Not long after, they hit the bakery and sandwich shop a second time.

Not only was the business next door hit but so was the Firefly Chocolates and this BBQ stand. You can still see some of the damage left behind to the door where the burglars got in.

The owners said there's about $12,000 in damage -- doors busted off the hinges, windows broken with more damage inside.

"Generally, Ohiopyle is a very safe community; we feel safe here. The nice thing is they had security cameras and were able to figure out who the people were,” said Kruse.

These pictures flooded social media and helped police identify one suspect -- Joseph Stenger.

They have a warrant out for his arrest, and are actively looking for his accomplice.

Stenger had a big beard, but police believe, since this happened, he has shaved it.

He is currently on parole.

In July 2016, he was released after spending 14 years in prison for murder.
