State investigating Clairton kennel after troubling inspection reports

The state is investigating a kennel in Clairton.

Inspection reports indicate several dogs were inside a bitterly cold cage, among other issues, and there is now a petition with nearly 1,000 signatures to get the Gaydos Behanna Kennel cleaned up.

Sandra Mains, who also volunteered at the kennel, claims her dog got parvo when she dropped him off at the kennel in December around Christmas.

Main's dog is healthy now.

“I want it exposed for both the animals that can't speak for themselves and the people too afraid to,” said Tina Frankert, the creator of the petition.

A petition created just days ago already has nearly 1,000 signatures.

It calls for the removal of the owner of the kennel, as the humane officer for Clairton.

The owner of this kennel told Channel 11 that 99 percent of the allegations are false.

Channel 11 found the state inspected this kennel earlier this month.

Dogs shivering in a basement that was 32.2 degrees, large amounts of clutter, garbage, dirt and debris are just some of the issues noted during the inspection.

An official with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture said:

"We are investigating the kennel, and we have notified Animal Friends of Pittsburgh to consider an animal cruelty investigation."

“I know we both have sides and our beliefs to it and the truth will come out in the end if it's really investigated,” Frankert said.

The owner said she is planning on suing the woman who created the petition for false allegations.

The state will be inspecting the kennel again Friday.
