1 in custody after juvenile hit by car, shots fired in East Pittsburgh

EAST PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after a juvenile pedestrian was hit by a car and reports of shots fired happened in the same area.

The incident happened around 5:15 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of Bessemer Avenue in East Pittsburgh, according to state troopers.

Emergency responders found a juvenile who had been hit by a car on the road. That person – who has not been identified – was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

After starting to investigate that accident, state troopers said they were called to the same area for a report of shots fired. Channel 11 crews on scene saw crime scene tape up, and the streets surrounding the area were blocked off by police.

State troopers said both incidents are related. After the crash, an “altercation occurred,” and shots were fired inside the back of the vehicle.

No one was hurt from the shots fired, and investigators said the suspect responsible for the crash is in custody. That person was not identified.

The investigation is ongoing.
