State Rep. Metcalfe blasts 'liberal loser Democrats' on social media

A controversial Western Pennsylvania lawmaker finds himself in hot water again after a blistering Facebook rant about his colleagues.

State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, who chairs the State Government Committee, blasted Democrats in the post, which included the phrase “liberal loser Democrat legislators,” among other insults.

“Another lying Philadelphia Liberal Democrat Legislator attacking me this week,” the post began, “... making false accusations that I threatened him.”

The legislator in question is Rep. Cris Rabb. Metcalfe also said former Rep. Leslie Acosta lied about him, calls Rep. Brian Sims a “lying homosexual” and also takes aim at “constant touchy-feely Rep. Matt Bradford who has touched me over 40 times.”

Perhaps more concerning is his claim that “I block all substantive Democrat legislation sent to my committee.”

Sharon Gallas voted for Metcalfe and supports him, but doesn’t believe he would say those things.

“He’s a good man. I think he represented us well,” she said. “If he confirms it and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt he confirms it, I might have to change my vote.

“I find it hard to believe he said that.”

State Democrats released a statement saying, "Metcalfe must be removed as chair of the State Government Committee … Metcalfe's racist and homophobic outbursts and blatant admission that he blocks legislation from advancing for the sole reason that it is sponsored by Democrats is why Pennsylvanians distrust Harrisburg.”

April Macklicka said Metcalfe’s comments will be a factor at the next election.

“Gotta think about it and know what to vote next time it comes around,” she said.
