PITTSBURGH — Hours after senators failed to vote on overhauling Pennsylvania’s statute of limitations laws, supporters and advocates aren’t giving up hope that something can happen before the end of the session.
While Wednesday was the last voting day for legislators, the session doesn’t technically end until November 30.
That leaves a chance for senators to re-examine Senate Bill 261, which would eliminate the criminal statute of limitations for sex assault cases and open a two year window for victims to file lawsuits against their alleged abusers and the institution accused of covering up the crime, even if their statute of limitations expired.
Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa (D-Allegheny Co.) said he’s not ready to say the bill is dead, believing there’s a chance it could be revived.
