SUV crashes into fence, porch along icy East Hills road

PITTSBURGH — An SUV crashed into a fence and the front porch of a home early Friday morning along an icy road in Pittsburgh’s East Hills.

Officials haven’t said whether road conditions played a role in the crash, but salt trucks were brought in to treat Frankstown Road.

The woman whose fence and porch were damaged told Channel 11 News that the road was slick because of a water main break in the area Thursday night.

Channel 11 talked to the man who called 911 because the water was flowing down the hill.

"It was coming up out of the street like 'The Beverly Hillbillies,'" said Tino Colucci, who works nearby. "It was just bubbling and the whole street was flooding down and around here like a river, about 6 inches high of water."

The crash left debris scattered in her front yard, which the woman said is now a "total disaster."

"I don't even know where half this stuff came from," the woman said. "I'm totally grateful because we could have been badly injured."

No one was in the SUV on Friday morning when police arrived to investigate the crash. The SUV, which sustained front-end damage, was towed from the scene.
