Thieves target unlocked vehicles in Reserve, Spring Hill

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police and Reserve Township police are investigating several thefts from unlocked cars.

At least two thieves rummaged through more than a dozen cars late Sunday or early Monday in Reserve Township, police said. Police believe there are at least two thieves because officers took reports from two areas at the same time.

Investigators said the thieves passed over items in the cars like change, GPS systems and cameras. Instead, police said they were looking for guns, gift cards and cash.

Neighbors in Pittsburgh's Spring Hill neighborhood told Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic that thefts from cars have been a problem since last summer.

“You can tell your car has been rummaged through,” Stacie Brown said. “They'll take quick items, change, maybe cell phones.”

Pittsburgh police said there have been at least five thefts from vehicles in Spring Hill since January.

Investigators couldn’t say whether the cases are connected.
