Two people hospitalized after police chase in Westmoreland County

LOWER BURRELL, Pa. — Two people were taken to the hospital following a police chase that ended in Westmoreland County.

Bill Ludwig and his son Luke recorded the cellphone video as they drove south this afternoon on Route 28 near Harmarville.

The father and son were nearly hit head on as the red truck in the video tried to get away from police and drove the wrong way on the shoulder of the busy highway.

"I was ready to pull over some more, and that's when I said oh he's coming toward us,” Bill Ludwig said.

The driver acts like he’s going to get off at the exit and pull over. Instead, he turns around and starts driving the wrong way down the shoulder of the road.

According to police, the two men in the vehicle allegedly stole a TV at a Walmart in Harrison Township.

"We figured it was something major, it was drug-related or a stolen vehicle. When it came all around and it wasn't stolen vehicle, and we heard it was a TV, it was like you got to be kidding me,” Ludwig said.

The truck was spotted in Arnold by White Oak police who were patrolling the streets while officers from Arnold attended the funeral for Officer Brian Shaw. Other departments at the funeral heard the pursuit on their radios and joined in.The chase ended in a crash at Carl and Kansas Streets in Lower Burrell. From Chopper 11, you could see a red pickup truck with extensive front-end damage after the crash.

Police say that red truck hit two other cars while fleeing police. Those drivers were not hurt.

The two people in the truck were taken to the hospital and are facing charges.
