Debris and pieces of insulation still hang in the trees and bushes on North Gallatin Avenue in Uniontown after a tornado hit the neighborhood last week.

Residents are still picking up the pieces, literally.

"And this is what you see – wind tore everything up,” said James Smallwood. “I've never seen anything like this since I've lived here, since 1968."

Smallwood told Channel 11 he's been putting pieces of plastic up to cover his blown-out windows, and said that’s progress from what he saw Thursday night.

"Pieces of houses, siding hanging from power poles, this power pole was clear across the street,” he said. “Everything was just tore up. Blew all my windows out the back."

Caution tape blocked off part of the sidewalk near Smallwood’s home.

“That's because of that chimney up there,” he said. “They don't want people going by because my chimney is half gone; it's barely standing up there."

The Red Cross has been going door to door to help in the recovery, and local organizations like East End United Community Center have donations pouring in.

"A lady from Morgantown brought up $600 in cleaning supplies and I was in tears; it was real emotional," said executive director Michael Crutchman. "You know there's support out there for our families."

Smallwood is trying to be patient.

"It's gonna take some time,” he said. “Red Cross is helping people. It'll all get back to normal. Hope it'll never happen again."
