University still reeling after murder-suicide during finals week

The Penn State Beaver campus reopened Thursday, but students are still trying to comprehend the ambush that occurred Wednesday outside the dining hall that ended with a cafeteria worker dead.

Student Paul House was working in Bistro with Lesli Kelly on Wednesday – he saw her just before her ex-husband shot her and then killed himself.

“It’s crazy. Like, I was honestly just thinking about what could have happened,” the psychology major said. “It’s just really weird.”

TRENDING NOW:

Detectives believe that William Kelly called his ex-wife, a longtime chef at the university, and lured her out into the parking lot by telling her he had Christmas gifts for their two children. State troopers say the couple recently divorced and were in a custody dispute.

Police say William Kelly had two guns and shot his ex-wife eight times.

A limited number of students are on campus because it’s finals week.

“You never think you’re gonna be … like, it’s not gonna happen where you are,” House said.

All finals were canceled Thursday and rescheduled for Friday. Counselors have been brought in to help staff and students.
